Chief Director: Research and Technology Development Services, (Ref No. AGR 06/2024)
The Purpose of the Job
To strategically manage agricultural technology, research, and development in the Department of Agriculture Western Cape to make sure an increase in agricultural production and competitiveness of the agricultural sector in the province, and this salary level 14 post is based in Stellenbosch.
The Minimum Requirements and qualifications
- Masters in Agricultural Sciences (NQF 9) and at least 5 years appropriate experience at senior management level, as well as valid unendorsed driver’s license, or alternative mode of transport for people with disabilities; and
- The successful completion of the senior management pre-entry program (see paragraph 4 in notes below).
The Recommendation
- Ph.D in Agricultural Sciences and at least Extensive experience in strategic management at a senior management level, and in particular in the agricultural research environment;
- Extensive understanding of line function management at a senior management level;
- Extensive understanding of administrative management at a senior management level, as well as Extensive understanding of financial management, prescripts and legislation, inclusive of PFMA and Treasury guidelines;
- Extensive knowledge of personnel Management and Supply Chain Management; and
Good understanding of agricultural research systems and important role players.

Remuneration
All-inclusive salary package of R 1, 371, 558.00 per annum (salary level 14). Please note that the remuneration package consists of a basic salary (70%) and the employer’s contribution to the Pension Fund. The remainder of the package may be structured according to your personal needs.

All selected applicants will be subjected to a technical exercise that intends to test relevant technical elements of the job, the logistics of which will be communicated by the Department and the Following the interview as well as the technical exercise, the selection panel will recommend applicants to attend a generic managerial competency assessment (in compliance with the DPSA directive on the implementation of competency based assessments) and the competency assessment will test generic managerial competencies using the mandated DPSA SMS Competency Assessment tools.
The selected applicants will be required to fully complete the Senior Management Pre-Entry Programme just before they may be appointed in to this position. The goal of the Senior Management Pre-Entry Programme, which is a public service specific training programme applicable to all applicants who desire to join the SMS, is to makre sure that the potential SMS members have a background on processes and procedures linked to the SMS.
