Job Description

the Minimum Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in animal science (with Pasture Science, Animal Production, or equivalent) and registration or affiliation with SACNASP will serve as a recommendation. and must be willing to travel regularly to farmers or clients and have proven knowledge of animal production, animal nutrition, breeding and reproduction physiology, and the ability to collect and interpret data accurately.

The animal scientist will play a crucial role in helping VKB farmers and clients with the following:

Animal Nutrition

• creating and adjusting rations (prescriptions/custom mixtures), composition of additions (salt blocks, vitamins, etc.) according to cattle and region. Using pastures and raw materials overall to boost animal productivity and efficiency, Feed/fowl flow recommendations and guidance.

Breeding

• Complete the assessment of the herd and plan the breeding program. improving and protecting cattle genetics, Selecting the right male and female animals will maximize breeding.

Animal Physiology

• • Overall improvement of reproduction rates in livestock and planning of calf- and reproductive seasons. Overall management of the fertility programme of livestock.

Overall Management

• • Engage with farmers to gather a holistic management plan for their farm, along with agronomists, agriculturalists, and other specialists. Training of farmers and employees for the overall effective management of livestock and crops for optimal production and efficiencies

Skills

• continuous learning mindset, good communication and administrative skills, a professional attitude and appearance and the ability to be resourceful and proactive when problems arise. Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Accuracy, attention to detail, good reporting skills, costomers focus, and being well organized.
